Boosting kids immunity

Smoothie RecipesHave you ever tried getting your child to eat their greens like spinach or kale?  Well it starts young to get your child in the habit of eating a healthy balanced diet. What I like to make for my daughter are nutritious smoothies. Every morning she gets a good start to her day. I feel good knowing I’m doing my part in starting a good foundation towards her outlook on healthy eating. I’ve tried quiet a bit of variations of making fruit and vegetable smoothies.  I have a couple smoothies I would like to share . Adding to the fun to drinking smoothies, I bought her some fun drinking cups. Her favorite is one from Starbucks it’s a small tumbler with reindeer on it. It has a lid so no spill. I put a straw through the sipping hole for easier drinking.

Smoothie Recipes

Strawberry & banana w/ a twist

  • 1/2 cup of probiotic yogurt plain is great or a flavor if you prefer
  • 1 Banana
  • Handful of strawberries
  • 1/2 cup fresh pineapple
  • 1 tsp wheat germ
  • 1 tsp ground flax seed

Depending on the thickness of the smoothie you can add a bit of water or milk just to make sure they can sip it through the straw. Frozen fruit works great because you get the icy cool texture. I personal like to use frozen fruit for all her smoothies.

Tropical Fruit

  • 1/2 cup any kind of yogurt
  • Frozen chunks of melon couple pieces of all frozen fruit
  • Frozen chunks of cantaloupe
  • Frozen chunks of pineapple
  • Few frozen grapes
  • Few frozen strawberries
  • 1/3 – 1/2 scoop of greens+ for kids

During summer season I try to buy all my fruits and vegetables from local farmer’s markets. I try to buy enough to last me through the week .  Another way to keep local fruit around the house, before it goes bad. Cut the fruit up in bit size pieces and place in zip lock freezer bags and throw them in the freezer.

Thats a great recipe! My kids won’t touch spinach or kale so this is a great alternative:)
